Aitutaki.
Let that fog of tranquility fall upon me.
"Starry, starry night, paint your pallet blue and grey, look out on a summer's day..." Oh yes he was moved to sing to me. The balcony, the wine, the sunset... and then the song.
But then this island has that kind of influence on you. Soon after landing an invisible fog lays itself upon you.
A fog that is a delicious concoction of..... calm - yet heightened senses, a soft yet unavoidable inducement that takes you deep into the moment. No longer will anything outside your immediate environment demand your attention.
Yes, a deliciously warm fog of rest, luxury and indulgence.
Not a new sensation for me as I am a return visitor to this island jewel, but still it provides a natural high so intense that I walk around with a feeling of serenity that I wish I could bottle so that I could allow myself a sip each weekend after I return to normality!
This year we both promised each other to use all the amenities on site and to visit new corners of intrigue and culture outside on the wider island.
Bicycle and scooter were our preferred conduit to new experiences - both providing immediate contact with the local islanders.
I had to promise an effort to not spend too much time keeping in contact with my favorite passion - my business - but the Wi-Fi access and the glorious view from my balcony do make for an enticing office.
Happily I achieved the balance and we managed to explore a host of new spaces on the island. The food and the relaxed charm of the small village just a short bicycle ride north of the resort is worth a mention here. However, with such obscenely beautiful weather - suitably hot for this time of the year - we surrendered to the call of the poolside lounges and the fussing of the Black Rock bar team.
My man assumed the temporary role of family Gym Junkie, taking advantage of the excellent air-conditioned space overlooking the lagoon each morning. I became determined to rectify the energy equilibrium and indulge in a Spa treatment available on site. His groans of soreness over the first few days pay testimony to the wisdom of my choice over his.
With only a day left of this visit - yes I will be back - I let the Island fog lift enough to reflect on the reasons this space is just so amazing as a holiday option.
Of course the island itself is not the only ingredient of the decadent fog I have referred to. The pampering, the people, the personal touches, the professional dedication to paying attention to the small details all combine to create a full proof tapestry of paradise on tap.
I love the Pulse of this beautiful resort. The team at Aitutaki Pacific Resort have achieved that delicate balance between relaxed island charm and luxury hotel efficiency - well done!
