Have you ever faced a major life decision and felt uncertain about which road to take?
Whether it was leaving a relationship, quitting a secure job or spending a large amount of money -- many of us find ourselves facing big life and business decisions at some point in the journey.
This is often fraught with challenges….”Can I afford it? Is this the right thing for me to do? What if I fail?”
In my seven years working with entrepreneurs, it has become very clear that there is one BIG mind-set shift that all the rich and successful entrepreneurs embody, that the broke don't.
The broke entrepreneurs always use the EXCUSE... "I can't afford it", or “it’s too risky” (or really any excuse for that matter).
And the successful ones always say, "I'm going to find the way." They focus on how they can, instead of why they can’t.
I truly believe that we have the power to create the life we want to live and the business we want to own. It might take some time, and it may take standing on the shoulders of giants, but we all have that ability to create what we WANT.
When we reach crossroads in our life, we have to make a decision - do we take the safe road or do we follow our heart? This can often feel risky in our own minds, laced with fear even.
Take my own story…in my late thirties; I took a huge risk to pursue what I wanted in life. I left my 16 year marriage and a stable career and embarked upon ‘a life less ordinary.’ Without knowing the how, or the what – I took a huge leap of faith. I sold off my nest egg and poured it into my start-up business. A decision that freaked everyone else out at the time, but in my heart of hearts I KNEW it was the right decision. I may have compromised my security, but I had to see what the other side of my possibilities was.
I knew it was a case of listening to my true calling or dying with my song still inside me.
Was it all plain sailing from there? By no means. But I learnt some of my most valuable lessons in life that have contributed to the six figure success I now am experiencing in my business today.
For these lessons I am grateful. I see what I have gained, not what have I lost. And I step forward everyday with complete clarity and certainty that I made the best decision for me.
It took a whole lot of faith, a dollop of commitment, a heap of enthusiasm and barrels of persistence, but now I have found the business I get to call ‘home.’
I truly believe that at the end of the day we are our own wisest advisor.
Instead of wondering, “Should I be doing this?!?” when you have a risky, or life changing decision to make, ask yourself “How will I feel if I don’t do this?!”
Then go ahead and make the best choice for you. You and your business will be glad you did.
