Boheme RhapsodyMegan Ransom is a Wellington gallery owner with a difference. Boheme Gallery, located in Island Bay, is a “working” gallery that features Ransom’s well-known works in bronze, as well as art works by some of Wellington’s most talented artists. What makes this gallery unique is its sculpting school where students of all ages learn the skills required to make bronze sculpture using the 6000-year-old art lost wax method. “I was blessed with having a creative Grandmother,” says Megan. “She and her sisters would travel the world returning with fabrics, laces and embellishments that I would be in awe of. They encouraged me to create and to discuss artistic ideas, and nurtured my love of the arts. I have a rare gift that allows me to see things differently and enables me to be totally and physically connected to what I’m working on. My passion for art enables me to fuse creativity and life into each design. I feel I am a custodian of my creativity with obligation to pass on what I know.” Boheme Gallery/Workshop is located in the Island Bay village. Classes run throughout the year. Megan Ransom’s 5 tips for breaking through creative blocks 1. Put yourself in an environment that works for you. It may be quiet, or you may prefer loud music. Whatever gets your juices flowing. 2. Draw support and understanding from your peers. Surround yourself with people who are into the same creative understanding flow as yourself, they know the ups and downs of the process and all it comes with. 3. Don’t torture yourself. You’ve got to be in the right space for creativity to come to you, it can’t be turned on and off like a tap. Putting yourself under pressure won’t help. Taking a break and not feeling guilty or less of an artist is paramount. 4. Do something different. Take a sketch pad and go for a walk to the beach. Read a book about a famous artist. Inspiration can come from anywhere if you open yourself up to it. 5. Believe in yourself! www.meganransom.com |
