Discover the freedom and exhilaration of surfing this summer
By Janine Hall

Having moved to Bali three years ago to set up my women's surf and yoga retreat, both surfing and yoga became part of my weekly routine. It’s a far cry from my days of sitting in the office back in New Zealand, working 8am – 8pm and dreaming of those stolen moments on the odd sunny weekend that I may be able to get out on the water.
Having introduced over 1000 women to the sport of surfing since then, it’s been wonderful to experience the transformation that it has on their lives and how it builds their confidence. I think something magical happens when women come together to share the sport of surfing. The moment you stand up on your board something amazing happens: fear, doubt and uncertainty dissolve, transforming into absolute happiness. This is known as being “in flow” and builds an inner confidence.
Everyone has their peaceful place. For me, its sitting on my board, in the ocean – legs dangling, salt water on my skin, huge smile on my face. It’s where I feel truly alive and at peace. I’ve often thought about how surfing relates to life, so I thought I'd share five of the biggest lessons/insights into life that the ocean has given me.
