Scholarships available to female students to cultivate entrepreneurial skills
Year 12 and 13 female students can now apply for a Her Business Conference scholarship, which includes complimentary attendance to the two-day conference together with a one year subscription to Her Business Magazine.

Her Business Group, with eight years experience in producing a magazine for women in business, will present three 2-day Her Business Conferences in March 2003 as part of National Women in Business Week. The conferences will be held in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

The aim of National Women in Business Week, 1-9 March 2003, is to connect women throughout the country for a week of networking, inspiration and education to celebrate and achieve business success. Business and women's groups throughout the country will be hosting events, meetings, seminars, expos and conferences.

“It has been reported that New Zealand's entrepreneurial women are world leaders, and 37.7 percent of New Zealand's entrepreneurs are female, placing us above Australia and United Kingdom*. The purpose of these scholarships is to cultivate this trend and provide our budding entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and motivation to start a new business,” says Her Business Managing Director, Fiona Powell.

“The Her Business Conferences will provide an encouraging, supportive environment where the young women can network and be inspired by fellow women in business – perhaps even find a mentor for their business ideas,” says Ms Powell.

Keynote speakers for the Her Business Conferences include Amy Lyden who was the National Australia winner in the 2002 Telstra Small Business Awards and director of Bow Wow Meow, the largest producer of high quality ‘fun' identification tags for pets with personality in Australia.

Amy is also joined by Global Networking Specialist, Robyn Henderson who has authored seven books, including four networking and business building and three on her second passion – self-esteem building. Robyn will share valuable networking skills to build profitable strategic alliances.

The programme also includes:
Local speakers Colyn Devereux-Kay (Auckland) who established Les Floralies, producing a range of bath and body products for some of the world's leading retailers, and turned her $800 capital investment into a multi-million dollar turnover company.

Melissa Clark-Reynolds (Wellington, Christchurch), who set up her first business so she could provide for her family.
Melissa started a consultancy which became part of Fusion, New Zealand's largest private accident compensation insurer. She sold her interest to Southern Cross Healthcare and now works with CEO's of start-ups and high growth companies as a mentor.

Two practical workshop tracks will also be running in the afternoon, ‘Starting In Business' and ‘Growing your Business'

The Her Business Conferences will be held at Auckland 1&2nd March; Wellington 4&5 March; Christchurch 7&8 March and are made possible by support from Industry New Zealand.
