Speaker 1: Barbara Buckett, Employment law services

Topic: 'Are your private parts, really private'

Barbara is a senior law practitioner, widely acknowledged as a leading interpreter of employment law. She is also highly respected in many other fields including civil/contract law, public and administrative law.

She has appeared before most New Zealand courts, various tribunals, commissions of inquiry, parliamentary select committees and professional bodies. Her clients include government entities, major commercial enterprises, employers and employees, professional associations, private individuals, beneficiaries and mental health consumers.

Barbara has vast experience as a skilled negotiator and mediator. She believes that the key skills of a good litigator are negotiation, mediation and advocacy.

Speaker 2: Kaye Stirling, Hayman Lawyers, Generalist

Topic: 'Who can you trust in business?'

Kaye was born and bred in Timaru. Wellington has been her home since 1991, but she still thinks of herself as a "mainlander". Graduating from Otago University with a BA in Russian language in 1989 and an LLB in 1990, she was admitted to the bar in 1991. Kaye worked as a locum solicitor on the litigation teams of several local authorities and as commercial in-house counsel for a large banking institution.

Kaye was employed by Hayman Lawyers in 1998 and became a partner in 2000. Her expertise is in trusts, business advice and property matters, but she has experience in many other areas including litigation and dispute resolution.

Handouts and an open questioning forum will be offered at the end, of the meeting.

The door entry fee is:
