Network Meetings

South Auckland

The theme for our June event was ‘The Voice of Leadership’, taken from our guest speaker, Sally Mabelle. Following along the lines of taking control, we had a financial tip from Karen Tobeck from Monteck Group on protecting assets in a family business, and a legal tip from Alison Gilbert from Brookfields Lawyers on the topic of taking charge of your ultimate business structure.
Sally Mabelle was fabulous, very energetic and definitely a champion on how to speak with confidence. Sally’s focus was on giving us the tools to be able to speak with confidence, clarity, inspiration and empowerment. She gave us three tips to work with. Before speaking, make sure everyone in the audience is listening – look around and get attention. Breathe! Remember that you are talking to people on four different levels: body, mind, spirit and heart – include something for each of these areas to keep your audience listening. Her final thought for us was not to wait until you are good enough to do something because there isn’t enough time. Everyone took away valuable tools for the next time they need to give a speech.

Our next event is Wednesday 18 August at the TelstraClear Pacific events centre and our guest speaker is Roseanne Meo.

To RSVP for this event please contact Sarah Marsden on 09 577 2370

If you have not been to our meetings before you can request a complimentary introductory voucher to attend for free. We look forward to seeing you there.

Nelson

Twenty-six proactive women met at the delightful Seifried’s Vineyard Restaurant for a full day of networking, key-note speakers and platform promotions. Sarah Holmes from the Nelson Tasman Business Trust, Susan Piket from Barbican Training and Toni Lane from the Nelson Building Society all informed the group about the wonderful resources their organisations can offer for nationally recognised mentoring and training programmes, business banking and connections to local community. It served as a timely reminder, in tough economic times, just how much business support we have right here on our doorstep.
We usually don’t have the luxury of time to convince other busy people why they should do business with us. Being able to present ourselves quickly, professionally and with confidence is a necessary skill. Each forum delegate had the chance to take centre stage to speak for a full five minutes about herself, her business and her ideal client. The presentations were all outstanding. Every showcase was interesting and informative – a real confidence-building triumph. Seifried’s award-winning chef did us proud with a delicious lunch.
Our final key note speaker was Anita Newport from Parkes Automotive. As a three-time finalist for the 2010 Bloom Her Business Awards, Anita told the group about her business passion and her experience of becoming a national finalist. She encouraged us all to go through that process and experience the benefits for ourselves. We are so proud of her, and it was a perfect round-off for what had been a shiny, happy day for all.
Huge thanks to our sponsors, all worthy of support, and thanks to Diane Thorn from Being Better Training.

Christchurch

Another action-packed month for Her Business Christchurch with three events being held including a ‘Ladies Who Lunch & Learn’ workshop, the second Master Class with Annah Stretton and a night of celebration at ‘Connections After 5’.
Our exclusive member’s only ‘Ladies Who Lunch & Learn’ this month focused on ‘Action for an Organised Day’ with our specialist presenter Wendy Davie from Totally Organised.
‘Connections After 5’ is our signature event (always held the last Wednesday of every month) and is an opportunity to connect through both relaxed and structured networking over a glass of wine and canapés followed by an inspirational speaker. This month, at our beautiful new venue Mona Vale, we celebrated the wonderful achievements of two of our members: Cilla Hegarty who won the Best SME Business Award and Phillippa Jacobs who was a finalist in the same category, as well as Her Business Christchurch for being a finalist in Network of the Year at the 2010 Bloom Awards.

Her Business Christchurch runs a variety of events every month including workshop lunches, cocktail functions with inspirational speakers and master classes. We’d love you to join our community and connect with some of Christchurch’s most passionate, inspirational and fun-loving business women!

Taupo

Our July meeting was a great success with many new attendees joining our network to listen to Rodney Wayne. Our barman for the evening was our very own Master Chef finalist Nigel Anderson from the Suncourt Hotel.
We thank and acknowledge the renewed sponsorship of the Radio Network, Taupo Times and Fotogenx. Their sponsorship contributes to the continued success of our Taupo Network and is very much appreciated.
It was a great opportunity to introduce my focus group to the network and have a fun and interactive ‘icebreaker’ – a chance for attendees to introduce their business and share information to the group. We welcome new members and guests to our network meetings and as always thank the new and renewing members for their ongoing support.
Rodney Wayne has a story of branding, franchising, staff management and the list goes on. Our very own ‘rock star’ of hairdressing. A fun and informative evening enjoyed by all.
Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday 4 August. We will be holding our Styling Workshop to Photo Finish with Annah Stretton – an evening not to be missed.

We look forward to hearing from you, for details on our next event with the fabulous and dynamic Taupo Her Business Network meeting contact Lyn Young on 021 801 007.

Palmerston North

At the Palmerston North meeting, we discussed a modern phenomenon for businesswomen: are you married to your business? If so, is your relationship healthy? Every attendee at the meeting appreciates the variety of roles we have as businesswomen and the necessity to harness work/life balance.

Suzy from Max Wilson, Nyra Phillips NZMMA, and Pauline Meredith King Snap Business were on hand to share their experience. We had those among us confessing we are work junkies, others horrified at the night owls among us and some suggesting we enjoy work so much we wouldn’t have it any other way. The conclusion: choice is a fantastic thing, we choose our life and principles around it; we enjoy the process of achieving it and I would argue every woman would enjoy the choice in the morning to go to work or not. Financial freedom surely makes choice more frequent and possible. So onwards and upwards girls – at the next meeting we meet successful businesswoman Celia Martin to glean her tips for successful business growth.

Thanks to our panel, Annah Stretton, HG Catering, Kim Sargent Photography, Bliss Event Styling, Radio Networks, PJ Interior Design, Shona Rubery Design, TLC Sports Med, Crate Creations, Rachel Hansen, Spectra, Pania Ryan Beauty Retreat and Sue Wilson Manawatu Standard.

Lastly, was our key note speaker, Bridgette Patton – Tapsell of Village PR presenting ‘How to make your brand famous with PR’. The audience absolutely loved Bridgette and she provided a very educational and inspirational presentation on her business story and how to utilise PR/marketing better.

Tauranga

Taiparoro Mansion was the gorgeous venue where Tauranga women gathered for the June 2010 Tauranga Her Business Network event.
To start with we had a great ice-breaker exercise to get everyone connected and networking. It was a beautiful night so the networking was held both inside and outside.
It was then on to important notices and the very popular business card draws with prizes kindly donated by Stretton Publishing, The Radioworks, Hair to Train, Curves and Caci Clinic. The prize winners were very happy indeed.
Lastly, was our key note speaker, Bridgette Paton – Tapsell presenting “How to make your brand famous with PR”.
