Welcome to my Pad
Tablet computer devices are winning millions over with their easy to use featuresWords: Cliff SalterAs I seem to spend more of my life on aeroplanes, I notice that more and more people are travelling with electronic pads. The two main types I come across are the Android operating system-based pads and the Apple iPad. What I have found in talking to people who have these devices is that a lot of the time they are embracing this technology, as they find it super easy to use. I have seen children as young as 5-years-old using an electronic pad with no assistance. Grandparents who had always been daunted previously by their home computers, are happily using an electronic pad for browsing on the internet and staying in touch with family. Examples given to me by my fellow travellers of why they love their pad PC’s are varied. The most common was that they did not have to use a mouse. People love the touch screen technology. I can easily relate to this as I remember when I used to teach new computer users. Getting used to the mouse and the left and right clicks was a lesson in itself for a lot of people. Physical size is another big factor – light, easy to carry, and easy to hold while using. It was amazing how many people said they felt like they were in control because they had the device in their hands. Speed of application start up times and ease of going online was also very popular. Many people I spoke to had all but given up using the Internet on their home desktop computers. Since owning an electronic pad they were using the Internet all the time. The convenience of being able to use the electronic pad like a book from their favourite armchair increased the time they spent each day on the Internet. The long battery life of these devices is another advantage. For travelling this is essential. The bonus of having your own music, movies and electronic books at your fingertips while passing the hours to your destination is fantastic. So whether you are a frequent traveller or you just like the idea of some easy to use technology in your home, don’t be afraid of trying out an electronic pad system. People the world over are embracing the user-friendly nature of this technology. www.pchardware.co.nz |
