Festive cheer
Christmas and summer, the most social times of year, are upon us again and we usually find ourselves staring at the closet to find the perfect outfits for summertime parties. After an energetic shopping spree amid the Christmas shoppers, we then stare at our makeup collection to figure out what colours to wear with what ensemble. This is not as difficult as you may think. Party season is the time for bright beautiful colours – forget about nudes and bland browns. When going out for the evening or hosting a party, the last thing that you want to do is worry about your makeup. Having great staying power will help your makeup last longer. Look after your skin throughout party season; this is the best way to ensure your makeup stays put. Clean off makeup at the end of each night, and hydrate skin by sticking with a daily routine. Using concealer will help you look refreshed and luminous. Putting this under your eyes will help them look bright and animated by concealing dark circles and discolouring. Applying concealer to the whole eye area will work as an eye base, ensuring makeup lasts well. Lightly dust powder over the top to keep concealer in place. On eyes, pick and choose vivacious shades that will make your eyes sparkle and stand out. Summer is about having fun and being flamboyant. Utilise your dazzling and colourful wardrobe palette as inspiration for your makeup. Try peach on eyelids for a warm colourful glow. Or use purples and greys mixed together for a dulled down shade. Finish with a coating of collared mascara to match your eyeshadow. For lips, try contrasting shades to those applied on eyes, this will create drama and interest. Try the summery effervescent lipsticks and wear brighter colours with attitude. The more pigment your lip colours have the longer they will last, so embrace the vibrant trend and once on you can then enjoy the festivities and forget about your makeup. Your skin needs time to flush out any toxins and it needs four weeks to do this completely. • Don’t wear a sunscreen and an SPF moisturiser under your makeup. Any skincare with too much moisture in it will wear your makeup off faster. Opt for one instead of both. • For summer brides, avoid overdoing eyes, makeup runs in hot weather. • Do exfoliate your skin regularly in the build up to the big day. • Do let your moisturiser absorb into your face before applying makeup. • Do have your hair done before your makeup just in case your hair is wet, you don’t want to wet your beautiful makeup. • Do wear a double layer of mascara or fake eyelashes. Extra mascara or lashes make your eyes appear open and flirty. |
